Raw data is useless
Information is essential to reach your safety goals
Translating recorded flight data into meaningful, timely information and presenting it in the right way is not easy.
Let me help you meet this challenge, and achieve your safety goals.
Dave started working with recorded flight data on the Multi-Role Combat Aircraft programme in the late 1970s, and completed the ETPS helicopter Flight Test Engineer course.
Moving from test to design, he joined a specialist helicopter autopilot company and certified the world's first civil digital autopilot, used for Search and Rescue operations in the North Sea. He also designed the autopilot for the EH-101 Merlin helicopter.
At Bristow Helicopters, Dave designed, developed and flight tested the world's first Health and Usage Monitoring System, the precursor of all the HUMS saving lives around the world today.
A move to BAE SYSTEMS saw promotion to Chief Systems Engineer, responsible for all the company's flight data products. As well as HUMS, this included FDRs, engine monitors, airframe life cycle recorders etc.
Dave formed Flight Data Services, to provide a Flight Data Monitoring (FDM/FOQA) safety data service for airlines. The company grew to have a staff of 45 based in offices in the UK, Phoenix and Singapore, before being sold to L3Harris.
Dave continued to provide safety expertise in a consultancy role to L3Harris.
Dave formed this company to share his knowledge and expertise in flight data and aviation safety to the worldwide aviation community.
Consultancy offers answers to questions.
Here are some of the questions we can answer.
A CEO is not allowed to see the details of the FDM system, but needs to know if his money is being spent well.
We can provide an external overview to answer the top level questions: Is it working? Where are my real risks? What should we do better?
Most systems allow you to write algorithms that do something, but writing algorithms that you can rely upon can be challenging.
For example, detecting TCAS TA events on a mixed fleet can give you very mixed results...
We have provided training in the principles of FDM since 2000, running over 20 training courses worldwide and hosting a similar number of safety seminars.
Our standard course can be tailored to reflect your protocols. Courses are delivered in a relaxed, classroom environment as on-line training has been found to be ineffective.
If you think we can help you improve aviation safety,
